This Class is For:

Absolute beginners with no soldering experience
Hobbyists or makers interested in starting with electronics
Students, artists, or creators looking to build or repair projects

What You Will Do:

Short and simple lesson: Just 5 minutes of instruction before trying it yourself - best to learn by doing!
Hands-on soldering: Assemble a simple light-up electronic badge that you can keep! (20-45 minutes)
Q&A and suggestions for next steps

What You Will Learn:

How to set up and use a soldering iron
How to create functional and reliable solder joints
Soldering safety and ergonomics
Suggestions for equipment to buy if you want to continue soldering at home

What’s Included:

All materials to complete the project
Use of our tools and supplies during the class
Digital handout with class materials and next steps

Class is scheduled for 1 hour, however many students finish faster. We have 3 soldering stations available to use during the class. Ages 12+. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Price and Registration:

Classes are $59 per person and include the project kit to take home. Guardians accompanying a minor do not need a separate ticket unless they want their own kit/instruction.

Customized lessons and private classes are available for groups of 3 or more.

Location:

Classes are held at Passable on Capitol Hill in Seattle. Passable is a makerspace and art gallery located at 1005 E Union St, Seattle, WA 98122

Passable is easily accessible by public transit - the Capitol Hill light rail stop is an 8-minute walk away.

Parking can be difficult on Capitol Hill, but there is metered street parking in the neighborhood as well as pay lots. Please do not park blocking the garage door in front of Passable.

Who We Are / Why Learn From Us:

Andrew (he/they) has been soldering electronics for over 25 years and teaching soldering since 2022. His welcoming and fun teaching style emphasizes hands-on learning with minimal classroom-style instruction.

Accessibility Information:

Our main entrance has a high stair up from the sidewalk. Please let us know if you need an easier entrance to the building and we can open the roll-up door - this still involves a steep slope to enter and may not be appropriate for wheelchairs. Please let us know in advance if you have accessibility concerns, and we’ll do our best to accommodate.
